Afghanistan Urges Restraint as India-Pakistan Tensions Rise

The Afghan Foreign Ministry has issued a statement expressing concern over the rapidly escalating tensions between India and Pakistan, warning that increased hostilities are not in the interest of regional peace and stability.

In its official communique, the Afghan government urged both nations to exercise maximum restraint and to resolve disputes through dialogue and diplomacy. The statement comes in the aftermath of a night-time airstrike by India, which Pakistan has condemned as a cowardly act of aggression.

In response, Pakistan launched a retaliatory military operation, shooting down five Indian aircraft and destroying Indian army brigade headquarters and several check posts along the Line of Control. The Director General of ISPR later released video evidence of the Pakistani Air Force and Army operations to the media.

Meanwhile, Pakistan’s National Security Committee (NSC) convened an emergency meeting today, where it officially authorized the Pakistan Army to respond to any further aggression.

According to the NSC’s declaration, Pakistan reserves the right of self-defense under Article 51 of the United Nations Charter, and the armed forces have been given full operational authority to take retaliatory actions “at a time, place, and manner of Pakistan’s choosing.”

“Pakistan cannot allow the martyrdom of its innocent citizens and violation of its sovereignty to go unanswered,” the statement said.

With tensions at a boiling point, international observers and regional actors, including Afghanistan, are calling for de-escalation to prevent a broader conflict in South Asia.
