POLITICS & POLICY MAKING
Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir has acknowledged the significant contributions of overseas Pakistanis, calling them the "true ambassadors of Pakistan" during an interaction with the diaspora in Washington, DC. The remarks came during his ongoing five-day official visit to the United States, aimed at deepening strategic and military cooperation between Islamabad and Washington.
According to a statement from the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the army chief expressed “deep appreciation” for the overseas community’s pivotal role in enhancing Pakistan’s global image through remittances, investments, and professional achievements.
🤝 A Warm Reception and Renewed Unity
The event witnessed a large gathering of overseas Pakistanis who warmly welcomed the COAS. Community members shared their insights and experiences, commending the professionalism and bravery of Pakistan’s armed forces, particularly in Operation Bunyanum Marsoos / Marka-e-Haq.
The COAS highlighted the importance of maintaining active engagement with the diaspora, calling for continued collaboration to overcome common challenges and build a more secure and prosperous Pakistan.
“The interaction concluded with a renewed sense of purpose and commitment,” the ISPR noted, as both the army chief and the attendees pledged collective efforts for Pakistan’s progress.
🌍 A Visit of Strategic Significance
While the visit coincides with the 250th anniversary of the US Army, it is not officially tied to the celebrations. Sources indicated that Field Marshal Munir spent time at the US Central Command (CENTCOM) headquarters in Tampa, Florida, earlier during the trip.
He is expected to hold high-level meetings with senior US military and government officials, including the Secretaries of Defence and State, to reinforce Pakistan-US military and counterterrorism cooperation.
This visit comes at a crucial time for regional security, especially in the wake of evolving geopolitical dynamics in South Asia and the Middle East.
