A violent family dispute turned deadly on Monday in the Khatko Pul area of Peshawar, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, claiming the lives of six individuals, including three women, in an exchange of gunfire between two related families.
According to a spokesperson for Rescue 1122, a total of seven people were shot during the confrontation, six of whom died on the spot. The deceased were identified as Fazl Amin, Hazrat Amin, Ahmed, and three women whose names were not immediately released. Another woman sustained critical injuries and was shifted to Lady Reading Hospital for treatment.
The tragedy unfolded when an ongoing family dispute escalated into a violent clash. “The incident took place when a dispute over family issues escalated and members of both families opened indiscriminate fire at each other,” said Bilal Faizi, spokesperson for Rescue 1122 KP.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Peshawar, Noor Jamal, confirmed that a First Information Report (FIR) has been registered, naming three individuals as the main accused. Raids are currently underway to apprehend the suspects.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the sister of one of the accused had died just three days prior, and the accused suspected foul play from the other party—relatives of the deceased. This suspicion is believed to have triggered Monday's deadly altercation.
Police and rescue personnel swiftly reached the scene, cordoning off the area and ensuring security remained on high alert. The incident has left local residents shaken, many of whom have called on the authorities to deliver swift justice and prevent such violence from recurring.
This is not the first such incident in the region. Earlier this year, six people were killed in a similar family feud in the Pehlawanano Pul area, and in December of the previous year, another deadly clash claimed five lives.
The growing frequency of such violent domestic disputes in Peshawar has raised serious concerns among civil society and law enforcement agencies.
