Frontier Constabulary Renamed, Given Nationwide Authority

The Frontier Constabulary (FC) has been rebranded as the Federal Constabulary, with operational authority extended across the entire country. The move comes under the Frontier Constabulary Reorganization Ordinance 2025, formally issued by the President of Pakistan, according to a notification released by the Law and Justice Division.

The ordinance marks a significant shift in the role and scope of the FC, previously limited to specific regions, particularly in and around the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province and border areas. With the reorganization, the FC will now function as a national force, capable of operating across all provinces and federal territories.

Key Features of the Ordinance:

·       The name "Frontier Constabulary" is officially changed to "Federal Constabulary".

·       Nationwide operational jurisdiction granted for deployment in civil and security duties.

·       The government will formulate new rules to govern the functioning, command, and responsibilities of the Federal Constabulary.

·       A Wing Commander will be appointed in each division, ensuring a structured and region-specific command system.

The restructuring aims to enhance the force’s efficiency, coordination, and responsiveness in dealing with internal security, law enforcement support, and emergency deployments across the country.

This reorganization comes at a time when the state seeks greater flexibility in its law and order enforcement mechanisms amid rising challenges such as militancy, border control, urban unrest, and counter-terrorism operations.

Analysts believe that transforming the FC into a centralized, well-coordinated federal force could fill operational gaps between the police and paramilitary units like Rangers and the Frontier Corps, especially in high-pressure zones.

The upcoming rules and structure of command under this new framework are expected to be announced soon by the Ministry of Interior in coordination with provincial governments.
