Islamabad: Following the tragic firing incident at a tourist destination in occupied Kashmir’s Pahalgam district, which resulted in the deaths of 26 people, India has escalated tensions with Pakistan by blocking the Government of Pakistan's official social media accounts on platforms like X (formerly Twitter). This move, made by the Hindu extremist Modi government, has been condemned for its lack of investigation and for further straining diplomatic relations.
Indian media reports suggest that the blocking of these social media accounts was justified as a reaction to the ongoing tension following the Pahalgam incident. Pakistan’s Foreign Office has expressed deep grief over the tragic loss of life, extending condolences and wishing for the swift recovery of the injured. Despite this, the Indian government has continued its aggressive stance.
Just a day after the Pahalgam incident, India announced the termination of the decades-old Indus Waters Treaty with Pakistan, which has long been a vital water-sharing agreement between the two countries. In a further escalation, the Indian government declared the Pakistani High Commission staff in New Delhi as "persona non grata," ordering them to leave the country within a week.
In response, Pakistan has convened a meeting of its National Security Committee (NSC), where high-level political and military leadership will deliberate on the Indian actions and decide on an appropriate retaliatory response. Officials indicate that significant decisions will be made, particularly in relation to the suspension of critical agreements and further diplomatic measures.
The current situation highlights a deepening rift between the two nuclear-armed nations, as both sides brace for possible further escalation. The international community is closely watching the developments, with concerns growing over the potential impact on regional security and stability.
