Islamabad High Court Approves Bushra Bibi's Transfer to Adiala Jail

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has granted the request of former Prime Minister Imran Khan's wife, Bushra Bibi, to be transferred from their Banigala residence, which was designated as a sub-jail, to Adiala Jail, where her husband is currently imprisoned.

The verdict, pronounced by Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb, comes after a plea filed by Bushra Bibi seeking the restoration of her petition, which had been disposed of earlier due to her lawyers' absence.

Although Bushra Bibi's lawyers did not appear before the court last month, a subsequent plea was filed to reinstate her petition. According to PTI lawyer Intazar Hussain Panjutha, she has already been shifted to a female ward in Adiala Jail at her own request.

Bushra Bibi was taken into custody on January 31 following a verdict by an Islamabad accountability court sentencing her and Imran Khan to 14 years in jail in the Toshakhana reference case. While their sentences were suspended by the IHC on April 1, she remains in custody due to the Iddat case, while Imran Khan is incarcerated in other cases.

The discussion surrounding Bushra Bibi's residence status has been ongoing for months. She challenged the declaration of their Banigala home as a sub-jail almost a week after her arrest, urging the IHC to allow her to complete her sentence in Adiala Jail.

However, the Adiala Jail administration opposed her transfer back to the prison, citing security concerns due to overcrowding. Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb had earlier questioned whether permission was sought from Imran Khan before converting their residence into a sub-jail.
