A United States citizen in his early 20s, Seif al-Din Muslat, was reportedly beaten to death by Israeli settlers in the occupied West Bank town of Sinjil, north of Ramallah, sparking widespread outrage and renewed calls for U.S. government accountability.
According to the Palestinian Health Ministry, Muslat was killed on Friday during a settler attack. The incident was confirmed by multiple family members and reported by The Washington Post, who stated that Muslat, originally from Tampa, Florida, had traveled to Palestine to visit relatives.
A State Department spokesperson told Reuters, “We are aware of reports of the death of a US citizen in the West Bank,” but declined further comment “out of respect for the family and loved ones.”
Another Palestinian, Mohammed Shalabi, was also fatally shot by settlers during the same attack, as confirmed by local health officials.
The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) condemned the killing, with deputy director Edward Ahmed Mitchell stating, “Every other murder of an American citizen has gone unpunished by the American government. If President Trump won’t act now, this is truly an 'Israel First' administration.”
The Institute for Middle East Understanding (IMEU) described the attack as part of a disturbing pattern of settler violence supported by the Israeli state. “Settlers are lynching Palestinians more frequently – with full support from Israel’s army and government,” IMEU said in a statement. “The US has a legal and moral obligation to stop this.”
Since 2022, at least nine US citizens have been killed by Israeli forces, including Al Jazeera journalist Shireen Abu Akleh. None of the cases have resulted in criminal charges, further fueling claims of impunity.
The United Nations and major human rights organizations consider Israeli settlements in the West Bank illegal under international law. Settler violence, often carried out with Israeli military protection, has escalated sharply since the war on Gaza began in October 2023.
The Israeli military claimed the incident began when Palestinians threw stones at an Israeli vehicle, escalating into a violent clash. However, investigations by Israeli authorities rarely lead to convictions or real consequences for settler attacks.
Hamas condemned the killing, calling it “barbaric” and urging Palestinians across the West Bank to resist “settler terrorism.”
As violence intensifies in both Gaza and the West Bank, Palestinian deaths have surpassed 57,000 in Gaza alone. Rights organizations are now openly describing Israel's campaign as genocidal.
