The Lahore High Court (LHC) has scheduled a hearing for the bail petitions of the founder of PTI in 8 cases related to the May 9 incidents. A two-judge bench, consisting of Justice Syed Shahbaz Rizvi and Justice Tariq Bajwa, will hear the petitions on May 8.
According to a notice issued by the Registrar's Office, the petitions are part of a larger set of legal proceedings following the May 9 violence, where PTI supporters clashed with law enforcement, resulting in widespread unrest across the country.
The PTI founder’s legal team has submitted the petitions after the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) rejected bail in the 8 May 9 cases, while bail had already been granted in other similar cases.
The petitioners have argued that the rejection of bail in these 8 cases is inconsistent with previous decisions, as bail has been granted in similar cases. The legal team has requested the Lahore High Court to approve bail for the PTI founder, citing precedence and the merit of the cases.
The LHC bench has summoned the prosecution to present the records and arguments regarding the rejection of bail at the next hearing, scheduled for May 8.
