NAB Recovers Over Rs88 Billion in First Quarter of 2025, Returns Billions to Scam Victims

The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) recovered and disbursed more than Rs88 billion during the first quarter of 2025, reaffirming its commitment to fighting corruption and restoring public assets. The announcement was made during NAB’s 24th Director Generals Conference, a three-day event held at its headquarters in Islamabad.

According to a press release issued by the bureau and reported by state-run Radio Pakistan, the recoveries comprised over Rs2 billion in direct recoveries and Rs86 billion in indirect recoveries. These efforts were made through legal actions related to illegal land transfers, occupation cases, and high-profile housing schemes.

NAB Balochistan retrieved 340 acres of state land from Chiltan Park and 250 acres belonging to the forest department—assets valued at approximately Rs6.45 billion. In Punjab, NAB Lahore made the highest contribution, recovering Rs70.87 billion from three mega housing scam cases: Employees Cooperative Housing Society, State Life Insurance Employees Cooperative Housing Society, and Sarwar Omega Villas.

Meanwhile, NAB Multan recovered Rs13 million in the GFS 7 Wonders Housing Scheme case, and NAB Sukkur retrieved 610 acres of land owned by the National Highway Authority (NHA), valued at Rs8.53 billion.

As for direct disbursements, NAB transferred Rs9.72 million to the federal government, Rs10.80 million to provincial governments, and Rs73.51 million to various departments and financial institutions. Notably, Rs1.99 billion was directly distributed among more than 19,000 individuals who were victims of scams—providing much-needed relief to citizens defrauded in various financial crimes.

These recoveries were accomplished through a combination of plea bargains, voluntary returns, and legal settlements with individuals and entities involved in corrupt practices.

“NAB remains resolute in its mission to recover looted public funds and advance its vision of a corruption-free Pakistan,” the press release stated, highlighting the bureau’s continued efforts to promote accountability and justice.

The 24th DGs Conference served as a platform to review NAB’s performance, share best practices, and set future anti-corruption strategies to enhance operational efficiency.
