Pakistani security forces foiled an attempted suicide bombing along the Pak-Afghan border and arrested five Afghan nationals, while a separate ambush in Balochistan’s Mastung district claimed the life of a Balochistan Constabulary officer and injured three others.
🔺 Border Infiltration Thwarted
According to PTV News, the foiled infiltration occurred on July 17 at 5pm, when terrorists—referred to as Khawarij by state sources—attempted to cross into Pakistan through Azizkhel and Mandikhel. Pakistani forces, acting on timely intelligence, set up multiple checkpoints, forcing the terrorists to retreat into a mosque in Besikhel, where they were surrounded and forced to surrender without resistance.
The five arrested suspects are Afghan citizens aged between 15 and 18, with three holding Afghan national identity cards. They have been shifted to an undisclosed location for interrogation. Authorities believe they were preparing for suicide attacks in Pakistan.
Security officials claim Indian intelligence support is playing a role in fueling these infiltrations through Afghan proxies, as part of a broader destabilization strategy.
This is the third infiltration attempt foiled in recent weeks. On July 9, eight militants were killed while trying to cross from Afghanistan into Bajaur, and earlier this month, 30 terrorists were eliminated in North Waziristan during a similar attempt.
🔻 Terror Returns to Mastung
Meanwhile, in Balochistan’s Mastung district, unidentified assailants opened fire on a police vehicle on the National Highway, killing one Balochistan Constabulary officer and injuring three others. The attack occurred near the Choto area and targeted a vehicle linked to the acting DSP, according to provincial spokesperson Shahid Rind.
The injured were shifted to Shaheed Nawab Ghaus Bakhsh Hospital in Quetta, while a search operation was launched in the area to trace the attackers.
This attack adds to a string of recent violence in the region:
· April: 3 constabulary personnel martyred, 16 injured in Dasht Road blast in Mastung.
· July 16: 3 killed, 7 injured in a bus attack in Kalat.
· Early July: 3 officers injured in Nasirabad in a highway ambush.
· July 9: A grenade exploded at the Sibi-Harnai checkpoint (no casualties).
· June 21: 2 Frontier Corps personnel martyred in a bomb attack in Kalat’s Mongochar.
📊 Terror Trends
Despite these events, June 2025 saw a slight decline in militant activity, according to the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS). A total of 78 attacks led to 100 fatalities, including 53 security personnel and 39 civilians.
With cross-border threats on the rise and internal militancy surging again in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, security agencies remain on high alert, emphasizing border vigilance, counterterrorism readiness, and regional cooperation to manage the evolving threat landscape.
