TRADE & ECONOMY

Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have reaffirmed their longstanding diplomatic, economic, and cultural ties through a series of strategic agreements and Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) signed during the visit of Abu Dhabi’s Crown Prince to Islamabad.
The agreements, spanning banking, railways, mining, and infrastructure investment, aim to enhance economic cooperation and strengthen collaboration between the two nations. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Crown Prince Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan witnessed the signing ceremony as officials from both sides exchanged documents.
Federal cabinet members, Chief of Army Staff General Asim Munir, and members of the UAE delegation were also present at the event.
A Strengthened Partnership
Highlighting the significance of the visit, PM Shehbaz Sharif took to X (formerly Twitter), stating:
"We held the most fruitful discussions and resolved to further strengthen our excellent bilateral ties through enhanced trade, investment & energy cooperation. With the encouragement and support of the UAE’s royal family, Pakistan-UAE ties are growing from strength to strength!"
The Abu Dhabi crown prince was accorded a warm welcome upon his arrival at the Prime Minister House in Islamabad. A contingent of the armed forces presented a guard of honor, while a cultural troupe representing all four provinces performed in celebration of the visit.
Earlier in the day, Prince Khaled landed at Rawalpindi’s Nur Khan Airbase, where he was received by President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Deputy PM Ishaq Dar, and First Lady Aseefa Bhutto-Zardari. Traditional hospitality was on full display as two children dressed in cultural attire presented the crown prince with bouquets.
Expanding Economic & Investment Cooperation
According to the Foreign Office (FO), the visit aims to bolster the existing framework for long-term collaboration in various sectors, opening doors for new joint ventures and economic projects.
"This visit underscores the deep-rooted fraternal ties between Pakistan and the UAE and reflects the shared commitment to further strengthen bilateral economic partnership," the FO stated.
The FO further emphasized that both nations have consistently enjoyed a relationship characterized by mutual respect and trust, with the crown prince’s visit serving as a testament to their commitment to elevating cooperation and enhancing people-to-people linkages.
The high-level engagement follows PM Shehbaz’s meeting with UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan in Abu Dhabi on February 11, where they discussed climate finance and economic cooperation.
With the latest agreements, Pakistan and the UAE continue to move toward a future of increased collaboration, promising new opportunities for investment and economic growth.
