Karachi: The Karachi Arts Council announced the cancellation of the much-anticipated concert by United States band Raining Jane, scheduled to take place on Friday at 7 pm. This marks the second cancellation of their concert in Pakistan, following an earlier cancellation in Lahore.
The cancellation was confirmed by the institution via a Facebook post. The event, organized in collaboration with the United States Consulate General Karachi, was anticipated by many music enthusiasts in the city.
Earlier this month, Raining Jane's performance was also cancelled at Government College University Lahore due to protests by pro-Palestinian supporters. The event, organized by the GCU literary society, faced opposition from the Progressive Students’ Collective, resulting in the band members being barred from entering the university’s hall.
The repeated cancellations raise concerns about freedom of expression and cultural exchanges in Pakistan, highlighting the challenges faced by international artists performing in the country.
