Relief Announced for Tirah Valley Victims as Govt Engages Tribal Elders in Jirga Talks

In a significant move to support communities devastated by recent acts of terrorism in the Tirah Valley of Khyber District, authorities have agreed to provide immediate relief to the affected tribes. The decision was made during a high-level meeting held at the office of the Deputy Commissioner, chaired by Commissioner Peshawar.

The jirga-style negotiation brought together tribal elders, MNA Iqbal Afridi, MPA Abdul Ghani, and representatives from major political parties including Jamaat-e-Islami, Awami National Party (ANP), and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).

According to jirga sources, the meeting concluded with an agreement to deliver relief to the victims’ families, and a representative from Tirah Valley is expected to meet Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Ali Amin Gandapur in the coming days to discuss further steps.

The meeting followed a tragic incident in the Bagh Maidan area of Tirah Valley, where multiple civilians were martyred in a brutal terrorist attack. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had earlier expressed deep sorrow over the loss of innocent lives at the hands of what he called “Khawarij” — a term often used to describe militant extremists.

Chief Minister Gandapur also condemned the attack and expressed heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased and injured. In a public statement, he announced a generous compensation package:

·       Rs 10 million for each deceased victim

·       Rs 2.5 million for each injured individual

“The people of Tirah have sacrificed a lot for the peace and stability of the region. The government stands by them in this difficult time,” said Gandapur.

Security in the region remains a major concern, and the jirga’s engagement with political stakeholders signals a renewed effort toward peace-building and rehabilitation in the tribal areas.

The initiative to meet directly with the Chief Minister is seen as a critical step toward addressing the long-term needs of affected families and ensuring better coordination in the region’s security and development strategies.
