Sindh High Court Halts Promotion of Favored Employees in Education Department

Karachi: The Sindh High Court has intervened to halt the promotion of favored employees in the Education Department amid allegations of merit violations.

The case involves Grade 16 office assistants seeking promotion to Grade 17 office superintendents. A petition filed by 79 employees challenged the department’s non-promotion and exclusion from the seniority list issued by the Director (Primary) Education Department Karachi.

During the hearing, petitioner lawyer Malik Altaf Javed highlighted concerns over an urgent promotion committee meeting scheduled for October 18. He argued that a previous date of October 8 had been manipulated to promote select favored employees before hearing the appeals of the petitioners.

The court ordered the department to halt all promotions and directed the relevant authorities to hear the petitioners’ appeals within seven days, emphasizing that decisions must be made strictly on merit. The petition filed by 79 employees was dismissed, but the court insisted on a fair hearing process.

In total, 105 employees were affected by the promotion controversy, with 79 filing formal applications challenging the process.
