The Karachi Police has withdrawn temporary Station Police (SP) charges from 12 Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs) across the city, as per a notification issued by Additional IG Karachi on Thursday. The decision follows a constitutional petition filed in the civil court challenging the appointment of junior officers as temporary SPs.

According to the official notification, the following temporary charges were rescinded:

  • ASP Majida Parveen – SP Investigation East
  • Ahmed Iqbal Memon – SP Gulshan
  • Zulfiqar Haider Jafri – SP Gadap
  • Faiza Sodhar – SP Landhi
  • Masroor Jatoi – SP Manghopir
  • Salman Waheed – SP New Karachi
  • Naeem Ahmed Chachar – SP Saddar
  • Imran Jagirani – SP Clifton
  • Qaiser Ali Shah – SP City
  • Muhammad Nawaz – SP Kiamari
  • Asif Munawar – SP Lyari
  • Zain Raza Baloch – SP Site

Notably, one of the DSPs whose temporary SP charge was withdrawn is said to be a close relative of Karachi Police Chief Javed Alam Odho, highlighting the wide-reaching nature of the move.

However, DSP Umair Tariq Bajari, who holds the temporary charge of SP Jamshed Quarters, continues in his role. Police sources describe Bajari as influential, and his continued appointment has raised questions about selective implementation of the decision.

The reversal of temporary SP charges comes after a constitutional petition was filed against the elevation of junior officers to senior roles without due process. The court action prompted the Karachi Police command to review the legality and appropriateness of such appointments.

Police insiders suggest the move could be the beginning of a broader reshuffle in Karachi’s law enforcement hierarchy aimed at ensuring merit and legality in police postings.

This development is expected to impact both the administrative structure and operational leadership of various Karachi police divisions, as new permanent appointments may soon follow.
