In a deadly cross-border assault, terrorists from Afghanistan attacked a military check post in the Hassan Mela area of Kurram, martyring two Pakistani soldiers and injuring seven others, officials confirmed.

According to security sources, the attack originated from the Luqman Khel Tangi region of Kurram, which borders Afghanistan's Nangarhar province. Militants opened fire on a military post, triggering an intense exchange.

Local Tribes Rise to Defend

In a remarkable show of local resistance, tribal elders quickly mobilized a lashkar (volunteer militia) to repel the attackers. One armed terrorist was captured alive, and in a video confession, he claimed that weapons for the attack were supplied by the Taliban regime in Afghanistan.

Background and Security Concerns

The region’s tribal population had surrendered heavy weapons to the government after a peace accord in recent years. However, following this renewed threat, MNA Hamid Hussain demanded that the government re-arm the local tribes to safeguard Pakistan’s borders.

“The people of Kurram are brave and patriotic,” said MNA Hussain. “They should be officially equipped with arms to defend their homeland against cross-border aggression.”

Regional Tensions

This incident adds to the growing tension between Pakistan and Afghanistan, where Islamabad has frequently blamed Kabul for harboring and enabling militant sanctuaries near the border.

No official response has yet been issued by the Afghan Taliban government regarding the attack.
