POLITICS & POLICY MAKING

Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Sindh General Secretary and Special Assistant to the Chief Minister Sindh, Waqar Mehdi, has been elected as a Senator from Sindh, winning the by-election for a seat left vacant after the death of Senator Taj Haider.
According to Election Commissioner Sindh Ijaz Anwar Chohan, Waqar Mehdi secured 111 votes, defeating Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) candidate Nighat Mirza, who received 36 votes.
Two votes were rejected due to incorrect marking, the commissioner confirmed.
This marks a return to the Upper House for Waqar Mehdi, who had previously served as a Senator.
The victory further strengthens PPP’s representation in the Senate from Sindh, reaffirming its dominant position in the province’s political landscape.
