At least eight security personnel were martyred on Saturday in a suicide bombing in the Mir Ali area of North Waziristan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, according to a statement from the KP Chief Minister’s office. The incident marks a deadly escalation in militant activity in the region.
Initially reported as four civilians injured, the toll was later updated by the CM’s office, confirming that eight personnel had embraced martyrdom in the attack, which was carried out using a vehicle-borne improvised explosive device (VBIED).
KP Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur condemned the attack in strong terms, offering condolences and prayers for the fallen heroes. “I salute security personnel and their families who have sacrificed their lives for the country and the nation,” he said in a statement.
Gandapur emphasized that such acts of terrorism only strengthen the nation’s resolve. “Security forces have made unprecedented sacrifices to establish peace in the country and eliminate terrorism,” he added. “These sacrifices further raise the morale of the nation. Everyone in the nation stands with our security forces in the war against terrorism.”
District Police Officer (DPO) Waqar Ahmed confirmed to media that four civilians were also injured in the powerful explosion.
This attack comes on the heels of several recent security incidents in the tribal districts. Earlier this week, two soldiers were martyred and 11 terrorists killed in an intelligence-based operation (IBO) in South Waziristan. On June 15, a Frontier Corps soldier was martyred in a gun attack in Upper South Waziristan, while earlier this month, 14 terrorists were neutralized during an operation in Datta Khel, North Waziristan.
Despite these operations, Pakistan continues to face an uptick in terror activities, especially in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan. The Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies recorded 85 militant attacks in May 2025, slightly up from 81 in April.
The military recently accused India of orchestrating terror attacks inside Pakistan through proxy elements. Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Director General Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry presented what he termed “irrefutable evidence” of Indian military personnel's involvement in cross-border terrorism.
Since the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) ended its ceasefire with the government in November 2022, terror incidents have surged. According to the Global Terrorism Index 2025, Pakistan now ranks second globally in terms of terrorist impact, with fatalities from such attacks rising by 45% over the past year to 1,081.
Authorities continue to urge vigilance and unity as the country grapples with evolving security threats.
