Security forces eliminated two alleged “India-backed” terrorists following a coordinated terrorist attack on government offices in Balochistan’s Mastung district on Tuesday. The assault claimed the life of a 16-year-old boy and left at least seven others injured.
According to Balochistan government spokesperson Shahid Rind, the attack — carried out by militants linked to the banned Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) — targeted the tehsil office, a nearby bank, and other government buildings. The assailants reportedly opened indiscriminate fire in the area, triggering chaos.
“Two terrorists were killed, while three others were injured in an intense fire exchange with security forces,” Rind confirmed, adding that a swift response by the Frontier Constabulary (FC), Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD), and Levies helped contain the threat.
The spokesperson used the term “Fitna al Hindustan”, a newly coined phrase by Pakistan’s military, to describe the group allegedly responsible — a label that frames India’s purported involvement as part of a larger destabilization campaign. The phrase is being employed to build a narrative around India’s alleged support for insurgency in Pakistan.
Local officials reported that the gun battle began around 11 AM, with heavy firing and loud explosions heard across Mastung town. “The area was quickly cordoned off, and a systematic clearance operation began,” said Mastung Deputy Commissioner Athar Abbas Raja.
Security forces also launched an intelligence-led search to locate facilitators and accomplices linked to the attack. “The immediate action by our forces prevented greater bloodshed,” Rind emphasized.
The attack underscores the worsening security situation in Balochistan, where separatist and extremist groups have intensified their activities in recent months. The BLA has emerged as one of the most active militant outfits in 2024 and 2025, responsible for several high-profile attacks.
Recent major incidents include:
· May 21: A deadly bombing on a school bus in Khuzdar killed 10, including 8 children.
· April: A blast targeting Balochistan Constabulary in Mastung’s Dasht area killed 3 policemen and injured 16 others.
· Last month: Two “India-sponsored terrorists” were killed in Balochistan’s Duki district, and another two in Kachhi.
The Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies reported a marginal increase in terrorist attacks nationwide in May (85 incidents) compared to April (81). Most violence continues to be concentrated in Balochistan and KP, with attacks largely targeting security forces and soft civilian targets.
Pakistan was recently ranked second in the Global Terrorism Index 2025, with terrorism-related deaths up by 45% over the past year, reaching 1,081 fatalities.
Security agencies remain on high alert across the region as clearance operations and intelligence sweeps continue in Mastung and other vulnerable districts.
