Federal Minister for Investment, Communications, and Privatisation, Abdul Aleem Khan, met with Belarusian Minister of Transport Alexei Likhanovich on Monday to discuss expanding bilateral cooperation between Pakistan and Belarus, particularly in the transport and communications sectors.
Key Highlights of the Meeting:
- Direct Flight Route Initiative: Minister Khan proposed establishing a direct flight route between Islamabad and Moscow, with the inclusion of Belarus in this initiative to strengthen connectivity in the region.
- Regional Connectivity and Investment: Khan emphasized Pakistan's plans to create a trade corridor connecting Pakistan to Central Asia, drawing parallels to the Karakoram Highway and the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
- Upcoming Belarusian Delegation: Aleem Khan welcomed the upcoming visit of a 68-member Belarusian delegation, including the President and several ministers, to Pakistan. He expressed hopes that the visit would foster Government-to-Government (G2G) and Business-to-Business (B2B) exchanges.
- Green Energy in Transport: Khan also underlined the importance of incorporating green energy initiatives into the transport sector as part of the bilateral cooperation.
Minister Likhanovich’s Response:
Minister Likhanovich expressed a strong interest in investing in Pakistan's transport infrastructure, particularly in the expansion of railway and road networks. He reiterated Belarus’s commitment to strengthening its ties with Pakistan, emphasizing that the partnership would benefit both nations and contribute to regional development.
