The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has uncovered a massive online fraud network in Pakistan involving over Rs10 billion in financial crimes. The FIA’s Economic Crime Wing has registered a case under the Anti-Money Laundering Act against nearly a dozen local and foreign companies and individuals.
According to the FIA investigation, the accused parties operated sophisticated scams, luring thousands of citizens with fake job offers and fraudulent business opportunities. These scams were reportedly facilitated by some private banks, making the operations appear legitimate and allowing large sums of money to be funneled through the system unnoticed.
The case report reveals that the fraudulent network includes several international entities and individuals. FIA officials confirmed that efforts are underway to arrest both foreign nationals and local suspects linked to the scam.
Preliminary estimates suggest the total fraud could climb to Rs50 billion. The network is also believed to have laundered billions of rupees through illegal channels, highlighting severe lapses in digital oversight and financial monitoring.
FIA officials disclosed that more than 130,000 online fraud complaints have been registered in 2025 so far—indicating a sharp rise in cybercrime and the urgent need for robust digital protections.
This case marks one of the largest cyber fraud crackdowns in Pakistan’s history and raises concerns about the vulnerability of digital platforms and banking systems to organized criminal operations.
