A Frontier Corps (FC) driver was tragically killed in a roadside blast in Quetta’s Akhtarabad area near the Northern bypass on Saturday, according to rescue officials.
Muhammad Zeeshan, in-charge of Edhi Foundation, informed Dawn.com that the FC vehicle was on a routine patrol when the explosion occurred, leaving the driver critically wounded. He was swiftly transported to the Bolan Medical Complex Hospital but succumbed to his injuries.
Zeeshan, citing Quetta police sources, disclosed that the explosion was caused by four kilograms of explosives.
In response to the incident, a heavy contingent of police, bomb disposal squad, and FC personnel reached the blast site promptly and cordoned off the area for investigation.
The Islamabad-based think tank Pakistan Institute for Peace Studies (PIPS) reported that Balochistan witnessed a total of six terrorist incidents in June, resulting in four fatalities, including security and law enforcement personnel, and 14 injuries.
This incident adds to the ongoing security challenges in the region, highlighting the continued threat posed by terrorist activities.
