Amid widespread media speculation about a possible delay due to Eidul Azha, the government has officially confirmed that the Federal Budget for FY2025-26 will be presented as scheduled on June 10, 2025, with the Pakistan Economic Survey FY25 to be released on June 9, 2025.
Caretaker Finance Minister Schehzad reaffirmed the dates in a post on X (formerly Twitter), stating:
"As communicated earlier, the upcoming Federal Budget FY26 is on schedule to be announced on June 10, 2025. Similarly, the upcoming Pakistan Economic Survey FY25 is scheduled to be announced on June 9, 2025."
Echoing the finance minister's remarks, Finance Secretary Imdadullah Bosal also dismissed reports of any change. Speaking to the media outside a National Assembly committee meeting, he said:
"The federal budget will be presented on June 10."
The clarification comes amid reports that the budget announcement might be postponed due to Eidul Azha, which is expected to fall on June 7, making June 9 the third day of Eid — the day the Economic Survey is due.
Earlier, Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal had stated that the budget would be presented on June 2, but that plan was later revised. The development budget for FY26 is expected to see a 16% cut, allocating Rs921 billion, which could result in the closure of nearly 200 ongoing development projects.
Last year, Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb presented a budget with a total outlay of Rs18.9 trillion, aligning with IMF guidelines, focusing on expanding the tax base without burdening current taxpayers.
With the fiscal year nearing its end and Eid approaching, the government appears committed to keeping to its revised schedule to ensure smooth continuity of financial and development planning.
