POLITICS & POLICY MAKING

A tense confrontation occurred during a session of the Senate Committee on Underdeveloped Areas when the Chairman of the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) reportedly mocked Senator Aimal Wali Khan of the Awami National Party by accusing him of appearing “as if he came after smoking hashish.”
The PTA Chairman’s comment, “Give me a hashish cigarette too,” triggered an angry response from Senator Aimal Wali Khan, who rebuked the official, stating, “How can a government employee speak like this?”
The verbal clash escalated, with Aimal Wali demanding accountability and insisting that either the PTA Chairman leave the meeting or he would. The PTA Chairman apologized repeatedly but eventually exited the session.
The Committee Chairman condemned the behavior, stating that the PTA Chairman insulted not only the senator but the entire committee. He announced plans to escalate the matter to the Prime Minister for appropriate action and directed the committee’s IT Secretary to formally take notice.
