The International Cricket Council (ICC) on Monday unveiled the schedule and venues for the 2025 Women’s Cricket World Cup, confirming that Pakistan will play all of its matches in Sri Lanka under a hybrid hosting model. The tournament will run from September 30 to November 2, featuring eight teams competing across five venues in India and Sri Lanka.
India returns as host for the first time in 12 years and will open the tournament against Bangladesh at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. Other Indian venues include ACA Stadium (Guwahati), Holkar Stadium (Indore), and ACA-VDCA Stadium (Visakhapatnam). Pakistan’s matches will be held at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo, Sri Lanka.
In a statement, the ICC announced that semifinal and final venues are contingent upon Pakistan’s qualification. If Pakistan qualifies, Colombo will host the first semifinal on October 29 and the final on November 2. If not, the matches will be played in Indian cities — Guwahati for the semifinal and Bengaluru for the final.
The hybrid hosting model stems from India's earlier refusal to tour Pakistan for the 2025 Champions Trophy, leading to a compromise allowing Pakistan to play at neutral venues in all ICC tournaments hosted by India until 2027.
The eight teams confirmed for the World Cup are: Australia, England, India, New Zealand, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Pakistan. Defending champions Australia will look to retain their title, having defeated England in the 2022 final in New Zealand. Australia remains the tournament’s most dominant side, with seven titles to date.
Pakistan secured their World Cup berth with a commanding 87-run victory over Thailand in the qualifiers held in Lahore in April.
ICC Chairman Jay Shah emphasized the growing stature of women’s cricket:
“Fans have shown great support for the women’s game in recent years, and I am sure they will start planning for these showpiece events now that they have key dates and venues. Women’s cricket stands at the forefront of our vision.”
The ICC hopes the 2025 edition will build on recent momentum and continue pushing the global profile of women’s cricket to new heights.
