Imran Khan Refuses Forensic Tests During Interrogation by Lahore Police Team

Former Prime Minister Imran Khan has refused to undergo polygraph, photogrammetry, and voice matching tests during his interrogation by a Lahore police team, amid ongoing investigations into the May 9 riots.

On Tuesday, a 12-member team, led by Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Javed Asif and including experts from the Punjab Forensic Science Agency (PFSA), visited Adiala Jail, where Khan has been imprisoned for nearly a year. The team aimed to question Khan about a dozen cases linked to the violent protests of May 9, which saw attacks on military installations and public property.

Despite the team’s presence, Khan expressed distrust in the authorities and refused to cooperate with the forensic tests. He requested the presence of his lawyers and stated, “I am under investigation by many agencies and will not take any tests for now. I will give the police time later regarding different tests.”

The Lahore police team, which included PFSA experts Abid Ayub and Inspector Waqas Khalid, attempted to question Khan for around 15 minutes after receiving assurances of justice from DSP Asif. However, Khan continued to reject the proposed forensic tests.

This was the second visit by the Lahore police team to Adiala Jail. On Monday, the same team, accompanied by Inspector Rana Akmal, Rana Arham, Alam Langrial, Rana Muneer, and Muhammad Ali, had spent approximately 3.5 hours waiting to question Khan, only to be met with his refusal.

According to an official involved in the case, the police informed Khan of his status as a “nominated accused person” in 12 cases related to anti-terrorism charges, incitement against the state, and other allegations stemming from the May 9 protests. The team emphasized that Khan was on physical remand as per court orders and was required for interrogation.

The police and PFSA experts subsequently briefed Lahore DIG Investigation Zeeshan Asghar about Khan’s lack of cooperation. The matter is set to be discussed in an upcoming meeting of senior police officers to strategize the next steps in consultation with the prosecution department.
