In response to the escalating street crime rates in Karachi, the Sindh government has announced the appointment of Imran Yaqoob Minhas as the new Karachi police chief. Imran Yaqoob succeeds Khadim Hussain Rind, who has been directed to report to the Establishment Division.

The decision to shuffle leadership within the Karachi police department comes amidst growing concerns over the safety and security of the metropolitan city. The recent surge in street crimes has prompted authorities to take decisive action to address the situation effectively.

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Riffat Mukhtar highlighted the severity of the issue in a presentation to Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, revealing alarming statistics regarding recent criminal activities. Over the past two months, Karachi witnessed 23 fatalities in robbery-related incidents, along with the theft of 3953 mobile phones, 46 four-wheelers, and 1537 two-wheelers.

Addressing the pressing concern, Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah instructed the IGP to identify 22 vulnerable police stations prone to street crimes and designate hotspots for targeted interventions. Emphasizing the importance of proactive policing, Shah urged the newly appointed Karachi police chief to mobilize senior police officers during evening hours, considering that street crimes often peak after sunset.

Imran Yaqoob Minhas assumes office with a formidable task ahead of him, as the city grapples with the complex challenge of ensuring public safety amidst rising crime rates. His leadership will be pivotal in implementing strategies to curb street crimes and restore confidence in Karachi's law enforcement agencies.
