Iran and Saudi Arabia have both extended their condolences to Pakistan following the heavy monsoon rains and flash floods that have caused widespread devastation and loss of life across several regions of the country.
In a message addressed to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Iranian President Masoud Peshmerga expressed deep sorrow and regret over the tragic loss of lives and destruction caused by the floods. President Peshmerga said he was “deeply shocked” by the scale of the disaster and offered prayers for the speedy recovery of the injured.
He assured the Pakistani leadership of Iran’s full cooperation in relief and rescue efforts and stressed that Iran stands firmly with its “brotherly Islamic country” in this time of hardship.
Meanwhile, the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs also issued a statement expressing its “deep sorrow” and “full sympathy” with the government and people of Pakistan. The ministry said that Saudi Arabia stands in solidarity with Pakistan during this difficult hour and offered condolences to the families of the victims.
The statement further prayed for the swift recovery of those injured and affirmed the Kingdom’s willingness to provide support wherever needed.
Messages of solidarity from the regional powers come as Pakistan continues to battle severe flooding that has destroyed homes, infrastructure and displaced thousands of people across multiple provinces.
