Islamabad High Court has accepted a request to amend the petition filed by Dr. Fawzia Siddiqui seeking the release and repatriation of Dr. Aafia Siddiqui, who is imprisoned in the United States.
During the hearing, Justice Sardar Ijaz Ishaq Khan questioned the government’s stance on disposing of the petition, with the Additional Attorney General stating that all possible efforts have been made.
Justice Sardar Ijaz Ishaq Khan emphasized that the case is a long-term struggle and a movement in itself. He highlighted the court’s role in several important developments, including enabling Dr. Fawzia Siddiqui’s US visa, the Prime Minister’s letter seeking pardon for Dr. Aafia Siddiqui, facilitating their meeting, and sending a Pakistani delegation to the US.
The court directed lawyer Imran Shafiq, representing Dr. Fawzia Siddiqui, to file the amended petition within a week. The case was adjourned for two weeks.
