PTI Appoints Khadija Shah as National Lead for Strategic Communications and Outreach

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has announced the appointment of Khadija Shah, a prominent fashion designer, as its national lead for strategic communications and outreach within the Election Analysis and Management Cell (EAMC). The appointment was made public through a post on social media platform X, with the official notification dated August 2.

Khadija Shah, the creative force behind the luxury fashion brand Élan, has had a tumultuous year. She was arrested following the May 9 riots on charges of vandalism and rioting but was released on bail in December 2023. Although an anti-terrorism court withdrew bailable warrants against her in April 2024, she remains embroiled in legal battles related to the unrest.

Last month, Shah made headlines again when she announced her decision to relinquish her US citizenship to accept a reserved seat in the National Assembly for women on PTI's ticket, a move prompted by former Prime Minister Imran Khan. This decision was in compliance with Pakistani law, which prohibits dual nationals from holding parliamentary office.

Shah's appointment to the EAMC underscores PTI's confidence in her capabilities despite her controversial past. As the national lead for strategic communications and outreach, she will play a crucial role in shaping the party's messaging and voter engagement strategies in the run-up to the upcoming elections.

Salman Amjad, the head of PTI’s EAMC, officially appointed Shah to this key position. Her new role will involve coordinating the party's communication strategies, ensuring effective outreach, and contributing to election management efforts.

PTI's decision to bring Shah into this pivotal role signals the party's strategic approach to leveraging diverse talents in its ranks, even as it faces ongoing legal and political challenges. As the elections approach, Shah's influence within PTI will be closely watched, especially given her high-profile background and recent legal battles.
