The Punjab Healthcare Commission has issued instructions to all private hospitals in the province to prepare for emergencies. A letter sent to healthcare providers mandates that 35% of the hospitals' beds be allocated for emergency services, ensuring rapid response in the event of casualties or medical emergencies resulting from the ongoing conflict.
Key Measures for Emergency Preparedness:
- Bed Allocation: Private hospitals are instructed to dedicate 35% of their beds to handle emergencies, ensuring adequate capacity in case of a large influx of patients.
- Operational Readiness: All operation theaters and medical equipment must be checked and kept in working condition. Hospitals are urged to ensure full operational capacity to handle critical situations.
- Stockpiling Supplies: Hospitals are required to maintain ample stock of emergency medicine and essential disposables. Medical supplies, including generators, must also be in good working order, along with availability of water and other necessities.
- Staffing and Preparedness: It is imperative that doctors and medical staff remain available at all times, prepared for any sudden medical emergencies. Hospitals have also been instructed to prepare emergency plans for a swift response.
Health Emergency Imposed Nationwide:
In light of the aggression from India, the federal government has imposed a nationwide health emergency, ensuring that all public and private healthcare facilities are fully prepared. The Federal Health Minister Mustafa Kamal emphasized the importance of this preparedness to respond to potential casualties in both military and civilian sectors.
Following these measures, the Grand Health Alliance announced the immediate end of its three-week strike in Punjab, ensuring that medical professionals are fully engaged in supporting the country’s health infrastructure during this critical period.
