3 CTD Officers Martyred in Bannu Gun Battle with Terrorists

Three brave personnel of the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) were martyred and two others injured during an intense exchange of fire with terrorists in the Spin Tangi area of Chashmi, Bannu.

According to a statement from the Regional Police Officer (RPO) of Bannu, Sajjad Khan, the martyred officers include Assistant Sub-Inspector Benyamin Khan, Constable Inam Khan, and Constable Musawar. Constables Wafid Khan and Imran sustained injuries and are currently receiving treatment.

Officials said that during the confrontation, two terrorists — referred to as 'khawarij' by the state — were killed, and two others were wounded. Their accomplices managed to flee the scene, taking the bodies and injured militants with them.

Police recovered a cache of weapons, ammunition, improvised explosive devices (IEDs), and hand grenades from the terrorists. The area has since been cordoned off by a large contingent of Bannu and CTD police, and a search operation is underway.

Following the incident, RPO Sajjad Khan, Bannu District Police Officer (DPO) Saleem Abbas Kalachi, and CTD Superintendent of Police visited the injured officers at the CTD hospital and assured that the best medical care would be provided.

Speaking to media, RPO Khan vowed justice for the martyred officers:
“We will soon avenge our martyred brothers and engage the terrorists with an iron hand till the very end.”

Later in the day, funeral prayers for the martyred officers were held with full police honours at the Bannu Police Lines. The ceremony was attended by CTD Assistant Inspector General Shaukat Abbas, RPO Khan, DPO Kalachi, Bannu Commissioner, senior military officials, and families of the fallen.

“Terrorists cannot demoralise us with their evil intentions. We will fight them bravely and destroy their network,” said AIG Abbas.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi condemned the attack, offering his condolences to the families of the martyred officers. In a statement from the Governor House, he said:
“The sacrifices of the police and security forces will never go in vain.”

This tragic attack comes amid a recent surge in terrorist incidents. In March, two CTD officials were martyred in a gun attack near Tanda Dam in Kohat. In January, a CTD official was killed by unidentified gunmen in Mirali Bazaar.

Authorities reaffirm their resolve to eliminate terrorism and ensure peace in the region.
