ATC Rejects Imran Khan's Polygraph Request, Cites Lack of Cooperation

The Lahore Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) has issued a detailed written order on PTI founder Imran Khan’s request to undergo a polygraph and photographic test, stating that his lack of cooperation with investigators has led to the rejection of the plea.

In a three-page verdict authored by ATC Judge Manzar Ali Gul, the court noted that despite being given a fair opportunity to prove his innocence, Imran Khan’s refusal to undergo the tests and meet the investigation team rendered the effort futile.

“The court gave the PTI founder a fair chance to establish his innocence,” the order reads. “However, the accused not only declined to take the polygraph test but also avoided meeting the investigation team, which raises serious legal and procedural concerns.”

The court remarked that ordinary accused persons are not afforded the liberty to refuse such tests, and questioned how the investigation could proceed effectively under such conditions.

The written judgment further stated that the court concurs with the defense counsel’s argument that the judiciary lacks the authority or equipment to forcibly conduct the test. Still, it emphasized that this was the second opportunity granted, and the court would not provide a third chance.

“It appears to the court that the accused is deliberately evading the investigative process. Therefore, investigators are instructed to complete the probe based on technical and available evidence,” the judge concluded.

This development is seen as a setback for Imran Khan’s legal team, as the court explicitly accused the former prime minister of non-cooperation and implied that his behavior could hinder his own defense.
