In a key development in ongoing investigations against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, Lahore’s Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) on Tuesday rejected the police’s request to conduct a polygraph and photogrammetric test of the former prime minister.
The court stated that the police had already been granted two opportunities to carry out these tests, but failed to do so. The presiding judge questioned how the investigation would move forward if the accused continually refuses to cooperate.
“The court has already provided two chances for the accused to prove his innocence, but he has stubbornly refused both times. Granting a third chance would only be a waste of time,” the judge remarked.
The ATC noted that this is the first case of its kind where the accused is declining opportunities to demonstrate his innocence through scientific methods. The court emphasized that no further opportunity is warranted under such circumstances.
The court directed the investigation officer to complete the investigation through all other legal avenues available, without reliance on the disputed tests.
The case remains under intense public and political scrutiny as the legal battle surrounding the PTI founder continues to evolve.
