A significant development has emerged in the harrowing case of a woman allegedly raped in front of her husband in Hafizabad. Muhammad Azam, the brother of one of the accused, Ikram, has filed a petition in the Lahore High Court seeking urgent judicial protection for his detained sibling.
Azam has expressed grave concern that Ikram might be killed in a staged police encounter, citing the prior deaths of three co-accused — Khawar Mansab, Khawar Fayyaz, and Laiq — who were reportedly gunned down in a police operation.
The petition names the Inspector General of Police and other officials as respondents and requests the court to ensure Ikram's safety and his production before the court of law. Azam emphasized that without judicial oversight, his brother may fall victim to extrajudicial tactics, thus denying him the right to a fair trial.
Taking notice, the Lahore High Court has accepted the petition for a preliminary hearing. Further proceedings are expected in the coming days, as public scrutiny grows over the use of force and legal process in such high-profile criminal cases.
