China has strongly condemned Israel's recent airstrikes on Iran, describing them as a clear violation of Iran’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and security.
Speaking at an emergency session of the United Nations Security Council, Chinese Ambassador Fu Kang expressed deep concern over the rising tensions in the Middle East, warning that “this escalation is not in anyone’s interest.”
“Israel must immediately halt its attacks,” Fu Kang said. “These strikes have serious consequences and risk plunging the region into further instability. Iran’s nuclear facilities have been damaged. The situation demands restraint and urgent diplomatic engagement.”
The ambassador stressed that all parties must respect international law, and he called on the UN Security Council to play an active role in conflict resolution. He warned against inaction, emphasizing that failure to de-escalate now could lead to a broader regional war.
🔬 Support for Iran’s Right to Peaceful Nuclear Use
In a pointed message, Fu Kang said that Iran’s right to the peaceful use of nuclear technology under the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) must be fully respected. He urged the international community, particularly countries with influence over Israel, to act constructively to prevent further escalation.
“Countries that wield influence over Israel must urge restraint and act as mediators rather than enablers of conflict,” he added.
China’s comments come amid widespread global concern over a spiraling conflict following a deadly Israeli strike on Iranian military and nuclear sites, which Iran claims killed dozens, including civilians and nuclear scientists. Iran responded with a wave of missile attacks, heightening fears of a broader regional conflict.
🌍 China’s Broader Role
China has consistently advocated for multilateral diplomacy in the Middle East and has strengthened ties with Iran in recent years through strategic agreements. The country also brokered the historic rapprochement between Iran and Saudi Arabia in 2023, underscoring its growing diplomatic influence in the region.
This latest statement signals Beijing’s opposition to unilateral military action and reflects its policy of non-interventionism combined with strong support for state sovereignty.
🕊 Call to Action
Ambassador Fu reiterated that the UN Security Council must not remain passive in the face of growing instability.
“This Council must fulfill its responsibility to uphold international peace and security. Dialogue, not destruction, is the path forward.”
