In a significant development, the Special Central Court Lahore has directed authorities to take steps for the re-arrest of Moonis Elahi, former federal minister, in connection with the ongoing FIA money laundering case. The court issued the order following a recent hearing, which saw the absence of the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) head due to religious obligations, as the individual was on Umrah.
The court’s written order noted that Moonis Elahi, along with Muhammad Jibran, had not appeared in court. Consequently, the judge has instructed the authorities to take measures to re-arrest the two individuals, especially since they are reportedly abroad. The court also ordered that a detailed report on the efforts made to apprehend the suspects be presented at the next hearing.
During the session, Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi, Moonis Elahi’s father and a senior political figure, filed a petition seeking acquittal. The court has issued notices in response to the petition and has requested arguments from all parties involved. The next hearing has been adjourned until January 20, providing time for the authorities to act on the re-arrest order.
The case involving Moonis Elahi and Muhammad Jibran revolves around allegations of money laundering, with the FIA investigating the financial transactions linked to the former minister.
As the legal proceedings continue, all eyes remain on the upcoming hearings and the steps taken by authorities to ensure that the individuals involved are held accountable.
