CRIME

At least two people were killed and 11 others injured in a deadly bomb explosion in the Rakhni market of Barkhan district on Monday, officials confirmed.
According to Barkhan Deputy Commissioner Abdullah Khosa, the blast was caused by an explosive device planted in a parked motorcycle. The explosion occurred in the main marketplace, causing widespread panic and damage in the area.
“The explosive material was planted in a motorcycle parked in the main market of Rakhni, Barkhan district. It resulted in the death of two people and injured 11 others,” DC Khosa told Dawn.com.
Critical Injuries and Emergency Response
At least four of the injured are in critical condition and have been shifted to a hospital in Dera Ghazi Khan for urgent medical treatment. The remaining victims are being treated at local hospitals in Barkhan.
The explosion caused significant structural damage to nearby shops, buildings, and a vehicle, according to initial reports.
In response, authorities imposed an emergency across hospitals in Barkhan district to deal with the influx of casualties.
Security Forces Begin Probe
Law enforcement agencies, including the police, Levies, and Frontier Corps (FC), swiftly arrived at the blast site. The area was immediately cordoned off, and a search operation was launched to locate those responsible.
Forensic teams are collecting evidence as part of an ongoing investigation. No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack.
A Disturbing Pattern
This is not the first such incident in the province. In March, four people were killed and five injured in Khuzdar when an improvised explosive device (IED) attached to a motorbike detonated in a crowded market area. That attack was also carried out using remote detonation.
The latest attack underscores the fragile security situation in parts of Balochistan, where militants have frequently targeted civilian and security personnel through roadside bombs and planted explosives.
Authorities have urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to law enforcement.
