Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, held a significant meeting with the Chief of General Staff of Iran during his ongoing official visit to Tehran, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) confirmed on Monday.
The meeting took place at the Iranian General Staff Headquarters, where Field Marshal Munir was received with a guard of honor by a smartly turned-out contingent of the Iranian armed forces.
Focus on Regional Security and Bilateral Defense
According to ISPR, the high-level military dialogue centered on the evolving security situation in the region, with both sides expressing deep concern over rising instability and the need for stronger cooperation.
The two military leaders stressed the importance of deepening defense ties, promoting bilateral military collaboration, and enhancing joint border security mechanisms.
Discussions also revolved around mutual interests, with a commitment to promoting peace, prosperity, and stability in the broader region.
Turning Borders into Economic Gateways
One of the key highlights of the conversation was the shared vision to transform the Pakistan-Iran border areas into economic and trade corridors. Both leaders agreed that economic upliftment of border communities can contribute to lasting peace and sustainable development.
High-Level Diplomatic Engagement
Earlier in the visit, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir jointly met Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and President Ebrahim Raisi, signaling a coordinated civil-military outreach to Tehran.
This visit is part of a broader four-nation diplomatic tour including Turkey, Iran, and Azerbaijan, aimed at strengthening Pakistan’s regional ties amid recent geopolitical shifts.
