Historic Peace Agreement Signed Between Rival Tribes in Kurram

In a significant development aimed at restoring long-term peace in Kurram, rival tribes from the Upper and Central regions signed a historic peace agreement in Parachinar on Wednesday. The ceremony, attended by the district administration and tribal elders from both sides, marked a pivotal moment in ongoing efforts to end inter-tribal hostilities in the region.

Deputy Commissioner Ashfaq Ahmed, who oversaw the proceedings, termed the peace agreement a “welcome step” and noted that it is the third such agreement signed in Kurram District in recent months. “This shows the collective resolve of the local population to move beyond conflict and embrace peace,” he stated.

The district administration disclosed that hundreds of individuals from both tribal factions had been killed or injured in past clashes stemming from land, sectarian, and political disputes. These prolonged hostilities have historically undermined stability and development in the area.

Tribal elders present at the signing ceremony expressed their full support for the government’s peace initiatives. “We are ready to cooperate with the administration to ensure these agreements are honored. Peace is now our shared responsibility,” one elder declared.

Officials confirmed that similar negotiations are underway with other factions to further consolidate peace across the volatile Kurram region.

The peace process, rooted in dialogue, reconciliation, and the spirit of traditional jirga systems, has been instrumental in turning the tide in areas long plagued by violence.

The government hopes that this agreement will pave the way for economic development, educational progress, and better infrastructure in Kurram, which has historically been sidelined due to insecurity.
