Justice Muneeb Akhtar Takes Oath as Acting Chief Justice

Supreme Court Judge Justice Muneeb Akhtar was sworn in as the Acting Chief Justice of Pakistan on Friday, following the departure of Chief Justice Yahya Afridi, who left for Hajj.

The oath-taking ceremony was held at the Supreme Court in Islamabad and was administered by Justice Jamal Khan Mandokhel. The event was attended by fellow Supreme Court judges, senior lawyers, and officials from the Attorney General’s office.

Justice Muneeb Akhtar, the third most senior judge of the apex court, will serve as the Acting Chief Justice until June 6, 2025. After that, Justice Mansoor Ali Shah is scheduled to assume the acting position from June 6 to June 10, coinciding with CJP Afridi's absence.

Chief Justice Yahya Afridi departed for Saudi Arabia earlier today to perform Hajj and is expected to return to Pakistan by June 10.

The temporary appointment of Acting Chief Justices ensures the continuity of judicial functions and proceedings in the Supreme Court during the absence of the Chief Justice.
