Israeli Airstrikes Kill 146 Palestinians in 24 Hours Amid Plans for Gaza Ground Offensive

At least 146 Palestinians were killed and hundreds more injured in the past 24 hours as Israeli airstrikes intensified over the Gaza Strip, according to local health authorities. The escalating bombardment marks one of the deadliest phases since a truce collapsed in March, with Israel reportedly preparing for a new ground offensive.

The Indonesian Hospital in northern Gaza described the situation as catastrophic, with many victims still trapped under rubble and hospitals overwhelmed by the influx of casualties. Gaza’s healthcare system, already crippled by repeated strikes and a prolonged blockade, faces critical shortages of medical supplies.

Israeli military officials confirmed extensive strikes and troop mobilizations as part of “Operation Gideon's Wagons,” aimed at defeating Hamas and recovering Israeli hostages. The military warned that the buildup is gradual, with Hamas continuing to resist.

The United Nations has raised grave concerns about Gaza’s worsening humanitarian situation. Aid deliveries have been blocked for over two months, raising fears of famine. UN aid chief Tom Fletcher has called on the Security Council to intervene to prevent genocide. While a US-backed foundation plans to distribute aid by month-end, the UN has refused to collaborate with it, citing impartiality concerns.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s security cabinet approved plans earlier this month for a large-scale offensive potentially targeting the entire Gaza Strip and controlling humanitarian aid. Following heavy strikes in northern Gaza towns, Israeli forces ordered residents to move south, but reports indicate tanks are advancing further south towards Khan Younis.

Since the October 7 Hamas attack on Israeli communities, which resulted in nearly 1,200 Israeli deaths and around 250 hostages taken, the conflict has devastated Gaza. Over 53,000 Palestinians have died, and nearly two million people have been displaced.

NBC News reported that the US administration is reportedly considering a plan to relocate up to one million Palestinians from Gaza to Libya—a move strongly opposed by Palestinians and regional authorities.

The conflict remains volatile, with international calls mounting for a ceasefire and renewed dialogue to alleviate the humanitarian disaster in Gaza.
