Pakistan Assumes Presidency of UN Security Council for July 2025, Vows Neutrality and Constructive Dialogue

Pakistan has officially assumed the rotating presidency of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) for the month of July 2025, reaffirming its commitment to promoting multilateralism, neutrality, and global peace.
In a statement issued by the Foreign Office, Pakistan pledged to serve as a bridge between the Security Council and the wider UN membership, adding that its presidency will be guided by the UN Charter, international law, and a “principled, balanced, and consultative approach.”
“Pakistan will bring a neutral, principled, and balanced perspective to the Security Council,” the spokesperson said.
“We are well aware of the challenges facing global peace and security. Pakistan will promote inclusive, result-oriented consultations and constructive dialogue.”
During its presidency, Pakistan plans to hold three key high-level sessions at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, all of which will be chaired by Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar:
· July 22: A thematic debate on “Promoting International Peace and Security.”
· July 23: A focused discussion on the Palestine issue, reaffirming Pakistan’s longstanding support for the Palestinian cause.
· July 24: A session on cooperation between the UN and regional organizations to strengthen global peace efforts.
The Foreign Office highlighted that Pakistan's presidency would emphasize transparency and inclusivity while seeking practical, consensus-based solutions to pressing international conflicts.
Pakistan, a founding member of the United Nations, has previously served on the Security Council multiple times and is widely recognized for contributing to peacekeeping missions and voicing concerns of the Global South.
Analysts suggest that Pakistan’s leadership of the UNSC in July comes at a crucial time as the world grapples with escalating conflicts, rising polarization, and renewed challenges to the rules-based international order.
