Pakistan Condemns Israeli Airstrikes on Lebanon, Urges UN Action

Pakistan’s Foreign Office on Friday “unequivocally” condemned Israeli airstrikes on Beirut and southern Lebanon, calling the attacks a grave violation of international law and ceasefire agreements. The FO urged the international community, especially the United Nations, to take immediate action against the Israeli offensive.

The condemnation came following Thursday's Israeli air raids that targeted Hezbollah positions — marking the fourth time Israel has bombed Beirut since a ceasefire was signed in November 2024, according to Al Jazeera. The strikes were carried out on the eve of Eidul Azha, adding to the symbolic and humanitarian toll.

In response, Lebanese President Joseph Aoun issued a sharp rebuke, calling the airstrikes a “flagrant violation of an international accord” and condemning the Israeli “aggression.” President Aoun emphasized that the attack endangered peace efforts in the region.

The conflict between Israel and Hezbollah, which reignited on October 8 — a day after Hamas launched an attack on southern Israel — has intensified over the months. Hezbollah, aligned with Hamas, claims its operations are in support of Palestinians under Israeli bombardment in Gaza.

The Pakistani Foreign Office expressed full solidarity with the people and government of Lebanon during “this difficult time,” warning that the “reckless use of force threatens civilian lives, fuels regional instability, and undermines efforts for lasting peace.”

In its official statement, the FO declared:

“The attack constitutes a violation of Lebanon’s sovereignty and breaches the ceasefire agreement. We urge the international community, particularly the United Nations and ceasefire mediators, to take immediate action to hold Israeli occupying forces accountable and prevent further escalation.”

Reaffirming Pakistan’s diplomatic stance, the FO reiterated the country’s commitment to “peace, justice, and the principles of international law.”

Meanwhile, Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam announced Thursday that the Lebanese army had dismantled more than 500 military positions and arms depots linked to Hezbollah in the south of the country. He stressed that true security could not be achieved while “Israel’s daily violations persist, parts of our land remain occupied, and our prisoners are not freed.”

As the situation in the region grows increasingly volatile, Islamabad has joined a growing chorus of voices calling for restraint, accountability, and renewed international diplomacy to prevent a wider war.
