POLITICS & POLICY MAKING

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan has categorically denied rumors of a political protest or movement starting today, stating that the party’s convoy to Lahore is strictly for internal consultations. His remarks came during a media interaction outside KP House, Islamabad, just before the PTI leadership departed for Lahore.
“No movement is starting today, no rally or protest. We are only going to Lahore for a meeting with party members. There is no fear of arrests,” Barrister Gohar said, putting to rest speculation about the nature of PTI’s Lahore visit. He emphasized that PTI continues to remain in touch with its Punjab Assembly members and has not sidelined any regional leadership.
Echoing these sentiments, PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja reiterated the party’s commitment to public engagement and constitutional freedoms. “We have the right to walk on the road. Article 19 of the Constitution grants us this right. Unfortunately, this right has been taken from us,” he said.
Raja also reaffirmed the party’s belief that the sons of PTI’s founding chairman, Imran Khan, have a fundamental right to return to Pakistan. “They will come back,” he added confidently.
Meanwhile, Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee, Junaid Akbar, gave a more assertive tone, suggesting that the PTI convoy’s visit to Lahore would “create an atmosphere of protest” along G Road. “This will send a clear message to the public that the party stands united behind its founding chairman. PTI’s protest will reach its peak by August 5,” Akbar stated.
Political analysts see this Lahore meeting as part of a broader PTI strategy to consolidate support, engage members from key regions, and prepare for a potential political mobilization closer to August.
While the leadership denies immediate protest plans, signals from within the party indicate growing momentum for political demonstrations in the near future.
