Balochistan Assembly Unites Against Terrorism, Condemns Sorab Attack

The Balochistan Assembly session held under Deputy Speaker Ghazala Gola saw a rare unity between government and opposition members, who collectively condemned the recent terror attack in Sorab that claimed the life of capable officer Hidayatullah Buledi and caused severe damage to government property.

Provincial Minister Zahoor Buledi strongly denounced the terrorists, stating they have no connection with any religion or tribe and are unworthy of being called human beings. The minister also highlighted that a private bank was looted in the attack, calling it a regrettable act.

Opposition Leader Younis Aziz Zehri, along with other opposition members such as Zabid Ali Reki, Rehmat Saleh Baloch, and Maulana Najid-ur-Rehman, echoed the government’s condemnation, emphasizing that terrorists are targeting innocent people and that the public stands firmly with the government in combating terrorism and bringing the culprits to justice.

A moment of silence (Fateha) was observed in the assembly for the martyrs of the Sorab tragedy.

In a heated exchange, Opposition Leader Zehri raised concerns about unanswered questions in the assembly and unresponsive secretaries, warning that the opposition may refrain from asking questions in the future if these issues persist. The Speaker reaffirmed that secretaries are obligated to respond to queries.

Meanwhile, assembly member Maulana Hidayat-ur-Rehman urged that both the government and opposition should not succumb to blackmail and stressed the right to protest.

The session also addressed governance and healthcare reforms. Member Zareen Magsi presented the Special Audit Report on the accounts of Bolan Medical Complex Hospital covering fiscal years 2017-18, 2021-22, and 2022-23, which was referred to the relevant committee.

Health Minister Bakht Muhammad Kakar introduced several significant health bills including the Balochistan Health Reforms Bill 2025, the Balochistan Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases Bill 2025, the Institute of Child Health Services Bill 2025, and the Maternal and Perinatal Death Surveillance and Response Bill 2025. All bills were referred to the respective standing committees for further review.

The assembly session was adjourned until June 3 after handing over the audit report to the designated committee.
