Karachi Bar President Amir Warraich Attacked by Unknown Assailants

Karachi Bar Association President Amir Nawaz Warraich was physically assaulted by two unidentified men riding a motorcycle near a restaurant on II Chandrigar Road, police reported on Wednesday.

According to initial reports, the attackers targeted Warraich outside the restaurant, subjected him to violence, and fled the scene before law enforcement could intervene.

Speaking to the media after the incident, Warraich reaffirmed his commitment to holding the scheduled lawyers' convention on April 12, saying it would proceed "at all costs." He also issued a strong warning that if the controversial decision to dig a canal is not reversed within 72 hours, lawyers would move to block the Punjab-Sindh border in protest.

The violent incident has sparked immediate outrage within the legal community.

In response, Sindh Home Minister Zia Lanjar took notice of the attack and directed authorities to ensure the immediate arrest of those responsible. He also promised enhanced security measures for key legal figures.

The Sindh Bar Council has announced a province-wide strike in all courts today, condemning the violence against a senior member of the bar and demanding swift justice.

This assault comes amid rising tensions between the legal community and government authorities over key policy matters, including the controversial canal project. The attack on a high-profile legal figure has heightened concerns about the safety of lawyers and the democratic right to peaceful protest.
