Karachi Court Issues Notices on Bail Application of Accused in Defense Torture Case

A local court in Karachi has issued notices regarding the bail application of Salman Farooqi, accused of torturing a youth in the upscale Defense area of Karachi. Notices have been sent to the Gizri Police and the prosecutor, with their response expected in tomorrow’s hearing.

Salman Farooqi and Owais Hashmi, both currently in police custody under physical remand, will be produced in court again for further proceedings. The accused filed the bail application recently, prompting the court’s move to seek the police and prosecution’s input.

The incident that sparked the case occurred two days ago following a collision between a car and a motorcycle in the Gizri neighborhood. Salman Farooqi, the head of a local company and the driver of the car, reportedly became enraged after the accident and physically assaulted the young motorcyclist.

Witnesses said the youth’s sisters pleaded for mercy as they watched the violent attack unfold, but their appeals failed to sway the accused. The incident has sparked public outrage over abuse of power and demands for justice.

The court’s decision on the bail application is awaited amid heightened attention to this case of alleged torture by an influential figure in Karachi’s Defense area.
