PM Shehbaz Rejects Rumors About Zardari Resignation, COAS Presidential Bid

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has firmly denied rumors circulating about President Asif Ali Zardari’s resignation and alleged ambitions of Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir to become president. He termed the reports as baseless and speculative, urging the public and media to avoid spreading misinformation.

Speaking to The News, the Prime Minister clarified that there has been no expression of interest from Field Marshal Asim Munir regarding the presidency, nor is such a proposal under discussion at any official level. He emphasized that his relationship with both President Zardari and the Army Chief is grounded in mutual respect and a shared vision for the progress and stability of Pakistan.

“There is absolutely no truth in the news that President Asif Ali Zardari is resigning,” Shehbaz Sharif stated, addressing recent speculation in some media outlets.

His remarks come amid a wave of political rumors suggesting possible instability at the highest levels of the state, with online campaigns targeting key figures including the President, Prime Minister, and the Army Chief.

Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, in a strongly worded statement posted on OfficialX (formerly Twitter), condemned the campaign as an “organized conspiracy.” He warned those responsible, stating, “We know very well who is behind this organized campaign. Let me make it clear—there has been no talk of the President resigning or the Chief of Army Staff becoming the President, nor is there any such thought.”

Naqvi, known for his close ties with the military establishment, stressed that such fabricated narratives are aimed at undermining trust in the country’s leadership and institutions.

The official rebuttals from both the Prime Minister and Interior Minister are being seen as a strategic move to shut down unfounded political speculation and reinforce the unity among the country’s top leadership.
