Prime Minister's Authority in Appointment Creation Abolished, Delegated to Ministers and Secretaries

In a significant move, the power vested in the Prime Minister for the creation of various appointments and posts has been abolished, with authority now delegated to Ministers, Ministers of State, and Secretaries. The decision, approved by the Federal Cabinet, marks a shift in governance structure aimed at fostering professionalism in government appointments.
Previously held by Prime Minister Imran Khan, the authority to create appointments and vacancies has been relinquished, paving the way for a more decentralized approach. This decision was made following the approval of recommendations from the Federal Cabinet through circulation.
Government sources reveal plans to appoint experts and professionals across various ministries and divisions. The Ministry of Finance, in collaboration with the Establishment Division, will oversee the creation of posts for these specialists, with recruitment conducted through a competitive process and special selection board.
Under the new framework, the appointment of consultants will require approval from the respective minister, minister of state, or adviser. Similarly, the appointment of research associates and young professionals will be subject to approval from the relevant secretary. However, the appointment of technical advisors will necessitate approval from the Prime Minister.
This move is expected to streamline the appointment process and ensure that qualified individuals are selected for critical roles within the government. By decentralizing authority, the government aims to enhance efficiency and professionalism across various departments and ministries.
